Volunteers Workshop: Teaching and Empowerment

Shireen Keyl, PhD candidate from the University of Arizona, provided a workshop for our Task Force teachers titled, “Teaching for Empowerment: Strategies for Migrant Worker Task Force Teachers”.  Shireen discussed notions of critical pedagogy and ways that critical educators can contextualize our students’ lived experiences (via their language and culture of their home countries), so as to create a more enriched learning space in our MWTF classrooms. She offered curriculum development ideas and better teaching methodologies to be incorporated into our program.
